Interestingly, this seems to be the result, whether this is the goal or not. I really like when the author talks about philosophy, which she often does in a roundabout way. Because Belle sees the world a certain way, and this perspective varies so greatly from my own, it really made me call into question my prejudices toward prostitution, prejudices that I didn't even realise I had unconsciously formed based on society's norms.

Belle writes with wit, clarity and in an honest way that is in turn shocking which you would expect from a book of its title , and other times surprising and thoughtful. An interesting read, though I found it difficult to keep the details about her personal life straight, due to nomenclature which I understand is in the interest of protecting identities, but I found that names like A1, A2, A3 and A4 were difficult for me to differentiate without different names.

All said, a worthwhile read. I actually watched most of the television series before I read this, and I was pleased that they had some similarities, but otherwise they were fairly different universes.

In the end, the book was much more entertaining for me. I thought there might be a few more graphic scenes, perhaps as though it would turn into an erotica book, but I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't.

It's a diary of Belle's life as a call girl - why would you write saucy, naughty scenes in your own diary? I genuinely liked the characters. I recall reading a review where someone expressed a dislike for her focus on all the boyfriends in her life, but I actually liked that part of the book - there is a real woman behind the Call Girl image, and I liked seeing that.

That being said, I don't think is for everyone looking for a real story with a beginning, middle, and end. I think you just have to take it as is - a documentation of a woman's life for a short period of time. It was witty, had a definite voice, and made Belle into a character I enjoyed more in print than on the screen. I personally think this would have been really interesting if the author had turned it into a work of fiction with a more developed storyline, hence why I only gave it three stars.

Regardless, it was a fast read, quite enjoyable, and I think anyone who is a fan of the show or interested in the 'Call Girl' culture that has come up from it would like the book. I do wish it was a little cheaper for Kindle purchase though It's a pretty good book and far different from what I usually read. It's taking me a little while to get through probably because I thought it would have a little bit more humor in it.

Pretty nitty-gritty tale of a call girls life in London. A bit disjointed at times, but I would assume accurate. Really enjoyed kicking back with this book when I didn't feel like reading something heavy. Therefore there were days I would read chapters and not be able to stop, and then other times where I was able to go a few weeks reading something else and come back to this when I feel like something funny, sexy and light.

It was an enjoyable read. I recommend not going in though with the picture that Billie Piper portrays so well as the real Belle is a little more, how do I say it The book was just different to the series, both are great in their own way, it's just that Belle in the TV series has a few less 'edges' than the Belle in the book, as is the way with many adaptations put onto screen.

Anyhow I really did enjoy this book, hopefully you will too: This book is cleverly written and very enjoyable. Belle De Jour captures the perfect scene of a London call girl in this book. For any who are intending to do that same, the book is certainly different than the show.

Its in a journal format, names are different, and events are not as explicit. That being said, I still think this is a great book to get if you are a fan of the show. Its a worthwhile read. One person found this helpful. I had watched the cable show based on this book, so wanted to go to the source.

The author is smart and a reasonably good writer. But in totem this doesn't pass as a "book". The stories don't go anywhere or lead to anything. There is no beginning, middle or end. And the author doesn't seem to learn anything about her time as a call girl. I can see why this was a popular blog. But didn't translate well into a book. Interesting light reading if you aren't the blushing type and have a sense of humor.

If you are at all familiar with erotic literature nothing in this book will shock you. This book was turned into a popular tv series and lots of other books have been published but almost all the source material was and perhaps still is available on her blog, where Belle posted lots of tips and anecdotes.

Where the blog was more random, the book tells more of a story. Good to pick up and read if you like autobiographies or are fascinated by working girls. I really enjoy reading stories about call girls and such, it's a very different lifestyle from my own and I find it interesting like I'm sure a lot of people do.

At the top is something like Guardian Soulmates or Match — the ones you pay for. You put in your pictures and add some information if you can be bothered. I started with one line "Single Canadian girl in London".

It's superficial, based purely on physical attraction, but that's what I was looking for. You go through what's there, if you see someone you like, you swipe right. If he swipes you too, it lights up like a game, then asks if you want to keep playing. My first Tinder date was with someone I'd seen before on OKCupid — the same faces crop up on all these sites.

He knew all the cool restaurants, the best places and, as he was only in London occasionally, things moved faster than they should have. After just a few dates, he booked us a night in a fancy Kensington hotel. I met him at a pub first — liquid courage — and knew the second I saw him that my heart wasn't in it. The connection wasn't there for me. Not a great start. But Tinder is addictive. You find yourself browsing and swiping and playing on.

The possibilities pile up. I'm ashamed to say it but I sometimes went on three or four dates a week. It could be to a bar around the corner, or somewhere fabulous — Berner's Tavern, the Chiltern Firehouse. Most of the guys I met were looking for sex, rarely were they after a relationship. With Tinder, I discovered what it could be to have sex then walk away without a backward glance.

Sex didn't have to be wrapped up with commitment, and "will he? It could just be fun. Sometimes I had nothing in common with the guy but there was a sexual spark.

In "real life", he was the ultimate knob. He didn't fit with my politics, my views, I'd never have introduced him to my friends. In bed, though, he was passionate, eager, energetic. For a while, we'd hook up every six weeks. But there were a lot of negatives. It could feel … seedy. Where do you go for sex? I didn't feel comfortable taking someone back to my place, as he'd then know where I lived, and I live alone. If we went back to his, I'd have no idea what to expect. With "Aldgate East", we had to walk through a pub to get to the bedroom and I swear there was a train going through the lounge.

You're trusting people you barely know. After a few dates with "Manchester", I agreed to visit his hotel room next time he was in London. I'd always been diligent about practising safe sex, but he had trouble getting in the mood with the condoms and went against my wishes at the last moment. The next morning I wrote him an angry text.

I've never felt so violated. Most often, though, I didn't have sex at all. I generally left home open to the possibility but found, when my date showed up, that I didn't want to see him again, let alone see him naked. There was no spark, or he was dull or gross or just too pushy. One date chased me to the tube trying to shove his tongue down my throat. Another — who started promisingly — changed after his second drink, spilling a glass of wine on me without apologising, and cutting me off each time I spoke.

It can be harder to walk away when you've met through Tinder. When you're matched, you can spend days — in some cases, weeks, months — exchanging messages, texting and working yourselves up, filling in the gaps with your imagination. By the time you meet, you've both invested so much, you've raised your hopes and his.

In some ways Tinder can even work against you finding a partner. I met one guy who was a likely contender for a boyfriend. We went on five dates without sex, just a kiss and a hug. Then one night, he arrived at my place stinking of booze and likely high on something.
